Los Angeles, CA – Sumner Redstone, Chairman Emeritus of Viacom CBS Inc., died on August 11, 2020. He was 97 years old. Redstone passed away in his Los Angeles home; the cause of his death is unknown.
Born on May 27, 1923 as Sumner Rothstein, Redstone was a CEO of National Amusements, a media holding company. During his tenure, he purchased Viacom Inc., CBS, and Paramount Pictures, creating a vast media empire. According to Bloomberg, Redstone had a networth of $1.9 billion.
“My father led an extraordinary life that not only shaped entertainment as we know it today, but created an incredible family legacy,” Redstone’s daughter, Shari Redstone, said in a statement. Sumner Redstone’s ownings of National Amusements will be passed to a family trust consisting of Shari and her son, Tyler Korff.
