Throughout 2022, the staff at the Current Affairs Times worked tirelessly on journalistic coverage and representation in many pro bono cases, ranging from domestic violence, police brutality, wrongful conviction, gun control, advocacy for the psychologically impaired, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Recently, the ABA Military Pro Bono Project for 2022 released its award recipients, which included Current Affairs Times’ attorney, Afia Sengupta.
Afia is the CEO and founder of Current Affairs Times, a small, NYC-based non-profit that focuses on pro bono legal representation for clients who cannot afford their own legal services. In addition to its legal efforts, the Current Affairs Times has a news wing to cover topics that investigate the underlying causes of current issues — many related to the problems continuously faced in their legal cases.
The fight for human rights has been central to Ms. Sengupta’s professional efforts for over 15 years. Whether through legal advocacy, journalism, or activism, Afia continues to dedicate her life to supporting the cause of a just society and laws that uphold human rights.
Afia would like to thank the ABA Military Pro Bono Project for the honor, as well as her fellow staff members at the Current Affairs Times for their support and dedication throughout the journey, including Ryan Campbell (Attorney), Nathan Rizzuti (Creative Director and Staff Writer), Adelola Tinubu (Paralegal) and Dina Bodner (Paralegal).
